Weekly Snaps
28 March 2025
Photography has always played an important role on Britannia. While she was in service, there was always a 'Yottie' appointed, nicknamed 'Snaps', to take photographs of life aboard the Royal Yacht.
In keeping with this tradition, we now have our own Photographer in Residence, Ruth McQuiggan, who has been capturing our very own Weekly 'Snaps' - a collection of snapshots of life around the ship today.

On The Royal Yacht Britannia's Bridge, visitors do enjoy imagining what it would be like to be the Captain of the Royal Yacht!

Sit back and relax in the Royal Deck Tearoom. Delight in a selection of soups, sandwiches, cakes, and scones, all made daily in the onboard Galley.

Finish off your day aboard with a scrumptious fruit scone, served with strawberry preserve and clotted cream.

Senior Chef de Partie, Amelia, in the onboard Galley preparing chocolate to decorate sweet treats for a private evening event.

Visitors can view two signal lights on Britannia's Bridge. These were used to contact passing ships by sending messages in Morse code.

Britannia featured a shared mess area where Junior Ratings from various departments could gather and unwind together. This space, originally known as the Junior Ratings' Recreational Space, eventually earned the nickname of the Unwinding Room.

With a vibrant design, and featuring famous Edinburgh landmarks, this mug, designed by Beth Tibbles, is perfect for sipping your morning brew.

Unwind in The Lighthouse Restaurant's newly expanded space, bathed in gorgeous light streaming through its floor-to-ceiling windows.
